Historical evolution of the color of family cars on the Dutch roads
In the Netherlands the data on cars currently on the road is available for everyone. Only the owner remains hidden.
With this data we can plot how the color of the family cars changed over time.
Of course this is an approximation. We no longer have the data on the the cars actually on the road in 1975. So we used the distribution of the cars that are currently still on the road which were bought before that year. This we did for every year.
The plot above is for the periode starting in 1965. At the end of the nineties the color started move towards the white/grey/black side. This also includes silver.
The plot below starts in 1950. Because there are fewer cars on the road from these early years, the lines are not as smooth.
