January 2016 sets new record global temperature anomaly
DATA VAN DE DAG - Records were broken last year. But with El Nino still strong, more temperature records will be set this year. And January is the first month doing so.

Two of the main institutes on tracking changes in the climate have published their data for January.
The first one was NASA / GISS. They reported a record 1.13℃ anomaly, topping the 1.11℃ of the previous month. This also resulted in another record for the running 12-month-average. Graph at the top.
The next one was JMA. The January anomaly was a record for the month of January, but only fourth place for all months. But still resulting in another record for the running 12-month-average. Graph at the bottom.
